azurelunatic: Mulder. "I cannot be without you" "Another heart is cracked in two" "If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you" (without you)
So there I was, driving from Palo Alto to Pacifica after socially acceptable phone call hours (especially for East Coast people) and all I really wanted to do was call somebody (Nora, Amal, or any of the usual suspects, for a certain narrow definition of usual suspect that will be defined shortly) and wail about whether or not Mulder and Scully are Drift-compatible.

I think it depends on where in the series they are. At first, Scully hasn't come to trust Mulder; after a certain point, Mulder will be holding back; and then it all goes to hell. But in the sweet spot -- that's where we get the Drift.

Plus Mulder would be utterly gaga over the kaiju. EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE, MOTHERFUCKERS.

... I think I'm going to need to hit up AO3 to see if anyone's written any yet.

  • 21:31 Would someone who speaks them both please consider running Mulder and Scully up against GladOS? Classic X-File, sadistic computer can kill. #
  • 21:33 I want to use the top of my monitor as a shelf. But it is flat-panel so I cannot. This is not actually woe, but frustrating. #
  • 21:58 Have used alarming amounts of my Venice BPAL imp. Should consider getting in bottle. (Like, since I first tried it have not really strayed.) #

This one is for everyone at Gossamer who didn't get feedback from me in 1997 through 2000.

It's been years.

There's a mermaid on the wall of the shower, and she's got her back to me, hunched over, studying the ripples in the water like she can see something there that I can't see, not even if I squint hard enough to see stars. I remember the black screens and amber letters, logged in too late to my shell account. Thin client, they'd call it now. Dumb terminal. Dumb angel, and saving grace in a world full of madness when the 24 hour study area in the library was the only sanctuary I could think to find.

All the geographic-distance between the screaming fangirls meant e-mail. E-mail meant culture and archives. I dreamed in gossamer, gold and green and all the lovely colors I couldn't see on my screen. I never responded, always lurking. Bad fangirl, no feedback. I was never a part of the culture, but there I was lurking on the outside, watching the words patch the hell I was living in. The characters always got worse, but they came together in the end, didn't they; they were meant to be together, and all the aching and poison words couldn't keep them apart. You could tell by the chemistry it was meant to be so. And in the end, it was.

Autumn leaves and crystal blue skies and that little treasured hope of independence and higher education turned in to twisted winter and bitter bare birch. The words were solace. I wouldn't let myself cry over myself, so I watched them burn in their silent orbits around each other, mute hateful torture. Sometimes they laughed, and I laughed with them. It was safer than crying. If I started, I would never stop...

I memorized the names of the ones who wrote them best. I had to believe that it was inevitable when they wrote them that way. I wasn't sure whether I liked the ones where they got together at the end or the ones where they weren't yet there but they'd make it there someday. I tried to write down what had happened with us, make it happen to them, but the words wouldn't come. It wasn't time. It wasn't right. I had more waiting to do, and someone with better words than I did had to write them as they were.

The years turned the anguish into dust, and from the dust grew flowers. They're still broken and beautiful, and the mermaid in my shower sits watching them. Why does she dream of unhappier times, when today is so full of life and promise?

Oh, my dystopia. We were perfect, you and I.

Tonight looks to include a sewing project. Aunt-Fayoumis and I are going to try our mightiest to concoct a skirt. The fabric is gorgeous, and far too reminiscent of Tom Riddle up to no good, though the red version would have been either better or worse, depending on your perspective. If it's a simple enough pattern, I'll get the hang of it and be able to put it together on my own back home with some degree of success. If it's not ... I'll figure it out somehow.

I might not be having as much fun with the transit system as I'd imagined I would. Since the Exploratorium plans didn't work out today (way, way crowded) we're going tomorrow morning early, as Borderlands doesn't open until noon. Guide Dog Aunt says she'll just drop me off there. And the whispering tells me that I'll find coming home on the transit system much easier.

Rest stop. I was up way late watching The X-Files way too late last night. I got about 5 hours of sleep in consequence.

You have to chase a Mulder. To rescue, to get his attention. It's a bold, dramatic saga. A Darkside is subtle.

Re-reading, Anna's writing holds up over time. I am not caught in the middle of my own personal x-files any more.
azurelunatic: Mulder. "I cannot be without you" "Another heart is cracked in two" "If you walk out on me, I'm walking after you" (x-files)
I was zonked at three.

... now I'm going through the entire works of a certain 'phile LJ friend on Gossamer, trying to remember which of them I'd read earlier, and if I'd totally fangirled over any of it, because that would be a very, very small world indeed.

I know I remember some of the titles.

In a locked post, an LJ-friend discussed comfort food -- not in any great debating style, just mentioned "These are my comfort foods -- what are yours?" It's a nice comfortable little discussion, and leads to recipe-swapping and ideas for creative expansion of menu.

My comfort foods include:
Mama's beef stew, homemade pizza, a salad fixed just the right way, with enough vinegar to make my nose sweat, Trader Joe's chocolate covered orange sticks, chocolate milk with Irish Cream, Campbell's bean with bacon soup with cheese and seven splashes of Tabasco sauce, Denny's coffee with 2 sugars and 2 French Vanilla creamers, parmesan cheese mixed with salt and vinegar, cold left-over London Broil the way my father cooks it (grilled with "Secret Sauce" over alder coals) with green olives, chocolate chip cookie dough, plain baby carrots (about a pound and a half at a time), frozen burritos, open-face grilled cheese sandwiches with sliced tomatoes, salt, and dill on top, red bean jelly, Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk ice cream, fresh ripe red cherries, corned beef hash with cheese and mushrooms, egg drop soup, potstickers, orange chicken over rice, and nectarines.

So, what are yours?
