Work was all kinds of crazy. The good kind was when I got summoned into the office and told that I am officially a Supervisor; I can call myself a Supervisor (rather than a Phone Goon Pulled to Assist) starting now; I will get paid as a Supervisor starting Monday.

Between this raise and the last one, I do believe that I might be in the range of "earning an amount of money that keeps me reasonably happy", which is a good place to be.

It feels great to be able to talk about my car when I mention car-related things. Today was hot and sticky. I was getting alternately overheated and chilled inside. I got hot the moment I walked outside, even with clouds; the air holds the heat when it's damp.

I drove to the mall with the air conditioning on full blast. I try to avoid that, because it takes a lot of power that could be staying in my gas tank, but I did not want to overheat and fry. I was still pink and sweating after obtaining the birthday gift. Then I drove out to Mesa.

The roads were surprisingly clear, so I was able to maintain a decent speed. But once I got close to Mesa, the wind kicked in. ("How many laws did you break?" Darkside wanted to know. "I wouldn't say break," I hedged. "Bent?" he suggested helpfully. "I wasn't driving as fast as your dad! The wind--" "--Had already knocked them over for you, I see." (And in strict point of fact, I had been maintaining pace with the rest of traffic, and had gone slower than many people due to the fact that the wind was bouncing poor Gemini around.))

It turns out that a dust storm with sporadic spurts of rain turns the windshield into a mud storm. Dry + poor ground cover/construction/buildup of dirt, dust, and litter on the roads = dust. Dust + wind = dust storm. Dust storm with not enough water to damp the dust down = mud storm.

I half wanted to stay out there in it.

Obso1337 Super has downloaded Google Earth onto his work PC, and everyone's been geeking out over it. He mentioned that Google is coming to the Valley. I had to ask again, because I thought mine ears didst deceive me. He confirmed. Google. Here.

My resulting shriek of glee had the entire workplace staring at me weird, because the rest of them didn't find it that overwhelming. (That, and when I shriek, it can be piercing.) I'm told by friends that strong positive emotions transform me. It must be startling to someone outside of me, because I'm expecting it and I'm still startled that when I'm shocked with something that thrills me, I explode a little.

Stressy College Chick suggested that I apply there. Sadly, I don't think I qualify. But Darkside might. I've forwarded the job postings to him. It would be so spiffykeen to have a best friend working for Google.

But.
Local.
Google.

There was a reasonable amount of stormclouds and general raininess on Friday night, and my camera and I went outside at the end of break. The series of photos starts here.

Ants.

One or two, going about their business, are cool every now and then, and, depending on my mood, get either squished or escorted out or ignored.

When you barge into the apartment after a particularly *difficult* Beltane morning (as in Circle scattered to the four winds and all ill and all in a really *pissy* mood) and find the floor of the entry closet at least 50% gray with all these INSECTS...

Thusly were the ants smote, verily and with extreme prejudice. Then Auntie J gathered herself together, yawped at the landlady, and went on a Sithly trip with a four-year-old crosstown on bus system to fetch red pepper and cinnamon in industrial quantities, both safe for floor with four-year-old grubbing around.

Now the ants (the tiny swarming kind) are in both bathrooms, don't ask me how they got there from the kitchen for I have No Clue, and have started marching up on the rug perimiter... and my nose smells like cayenne pepper. At least landlady will spray Friday.
