For what it's worth, I parse the phrasing "... is there a reason ... ?" as having several possible valid answers. One of the answers is "No, there is not a reason." The rest of the answers involve "Yes, and it is ___ ." But then, I am a literalist bastard, and was raised by one. This doesn't make me insensitive to nuance, but it does make me myself.

Things are pulled, except for a few people who have troubles in here. I'll see what I can get done with them.

/me is a literalist as well. And the world looks more and more stupid when looked at through this perspective.

That is my standard response. "You want to hand me that clicker there?" "No." Lacey. Whaddya know good?" There's no response to that one.

I'm a big hit at parties.

There's always "well, do it anyway!"

Taking the literalist approach can be quite bad for society sometimes, I think. Most of our polite-form requests take the form of a token question 'Would you mind...?" "Could you please...?" Answering those literally discourages the person asking from making a polite request, and maybe the next time they'll just go 'giz that' (or whatever).

I wouldn't, however, count 'you want to....?' as a polite-form request.

To which there's always "Certainly! I thought you just wanted my opinion." Or something similar :D

No, I don't either.

Ask impolitely, receive an impolite response :D "Did you just say 'Certainly I will hand you that 'clicker'. You wanna' go to hell?'" "No! I would never! I was just asking your opinion."
