There's always "well, do it anyway!"

To which there's always "Certainly! I thought you just wanted my opinion." Or something similar :D

I wouldn't, however, count 'you want to....?' as a polite-form request.

No, I don't either.

Most of our polite-form requests take the form of a token question 'Would you mind...?" "Could you please...?" Answering those literally discourages the person asking from making a polite request, and maybe the next time they'll just go 'giz that' (or whatever).


Ask impolitely, receive an impolite response :D "Did you just say 'Certainly I will hand you that 'clicker'. You wanna' go to hell?'" "No! I would never! I was just asking your opinion."
