I opted for sleep this morning. Sis came home from work early, and was on the phone about her grandmother a lot. I went to work.

Today I was on the phones. I only got a little book done; I'll have to write more of it, and more, and more... and type. Yes, typing is good.

Yesterday, I got my name badge from work. It's ghastly, but it's mine, and I am perversely proud of having it. I also cherish the ambition to re-do it at home and print it out and wear that badge instead.

Brunch today featured ginger/spearmint Scary Tea, which will, we are to hope, have the intended effect of kicking my lagging cycles in the ovaries and getting on with the shedding process already.

Hung out with Figment and [livejournal.com profile] othercat (and Figment's friend/carpool partner). Much giggling. Figment is relatively clean-minded, or at least tries to stay that way.

After four hours on a job, I get a little worn-down. Five hours has me zorked. Six hours hurts. I would have loved to swap over to $PROFESSIONAL_JOB from the goddamn beer survey, but no such luck.

And I like the beer survey.

Figment and I had a mild and polite political disagreement. He thinks that Bush is a better choice than Kerry. I disagreed. I brought up Kermit the Frog. We both agreed that Kermit was a much better choice for President than either of the two major party candidates. Kermit is my "I disagree with you, you disagree with me, the system sucks, and I'm glad we both can agree on that!" compromise. Plus, he'd make a decent leader, because he's a nice guy. (Kermit the Frog is to be distinguished from my 6th-grade ex-boyfriend Kermit, because Kermit-my-ex is younger and human.)

Came home to find Sis and her car gone, and the apartment very deserted-feeling and sleepy. Turned out she's spending the night with her mom. It's spooky that her absence makes that big of a change in the feel of the place. Chatted with my bro, called V, and made plans to have her come over with her new laptop tomorrow. I warned her that the decor in this place is somewhere between college student, parent, witchy, and technofreak. She thought she'd feel right at home. I mentioned the cats, and she lit up.

Hooray cats, and hooray new laptops. Also, hooray big brothers, who get away with ordering me to sleep.

The Truth About the Kirk/Spock Ticket, by the inimitable [livejournal.com profile] theferrett. Good for both people who are following US politics, and those who think it's all a bunch of hooey.

V came over and I looked over her laptop. It's used, and it's pretty cute. I made sure she knew where everything was. We cleared out stuff, rearranged stuff, and got the nasty blood-red desktop with Windows logo changed to peaceful clouds and blue, and most of the icons cleared off the desktop.

I got a surprising amount of housework done. In addition to vacuuming the living room and giving the kitchen a once-over, I got the dresser put together after V left.

I figured out the formula for number of monitors needed on any given day: Number of employees plus number of employees in need of a second monitoring session = total monitor sessions to do. Total monitor sessions to do divided by shift hours (that is, the actual working hours of the shift, if people are coming in at three and going home at eight it would be four to four and a quarter hours, because there's break to consider, and also monitor setup time, which is 15 to 30 minutes) and then divided again by the Magic Number 4.5, which is how many monitoring sessions per hour we the monitors are supposed to get.

Also, I guess there's joy in Mudville tonight.
