Pet peeve: cartoon vs. anime
Mar. 13th, 2004 01:34 amI like cartoons. I like many different types of cartoons, many different styles of drawing.
People have been calling random American-style or generic Western-style cartoons "anime" around me, lately, and that really pisses me the hell off. "Anime" would be that Japanese style of cartoon, and NOT the American style. They are very different, and I can tell them apart. I may not be able to tell a UK cartoon from a US cartoon, and I may not be able to tell the difference between a Western artist drawing anime style and an Eastern artist drawing anime style, but I can tell the difference between a Western-style cartoon and anime. They are NOT the same.
"Cartoon" is the generic class. "Anime" is a specific subset. I am not entirely certain of the difference between anime and manga (one is animated and one is drawn, I think?) It's like calling all computers Dells, or calling all cars Fords. It is wrong, so stop the fuck doing it!

Rock on, MRR!
Mar. 13th, 2004 05:40 pmToday I evidently rocked. We started off calling businesses for Channels, then switched to households, and then toddled off to get briefed on beer.
Unless you are doing well on that survey, you only get to recruit new people for the beer panel, and don't actually get to speak with the beer panel itself. Lunatic, newly briefed and perky, got the only two interviews on the recruiting phase for the day. Lunatic was summarily switched to the actual panel, and those, of course, you get zillions. One fellow had given up beer for Lent. Another one was really nice, and made sure to take my name so that he'd remember to sing my praises if they called back to verify. That always makes me feel so happy. He didn't know GrandfatherSir, but it's a big state.
I am very very happy to have been rocking. I got one all-plus monitor review today, and all the monitor reports but that one where I wasn't verifying teens consistently have been checks and plusses. I'm just waiting for my first star.

Uncivilized Lunch Meat
Mar. 13th, 2004 11:00 pmOne of the items on our shopping list for the next Great Grocery Adventure is "Lunch meat (uncivilized)".
You see, the trunk of Votania's car, Angel, eats things, especially lunch meat. The last few times we've gone shopping and bought lunch meat, it's been swallowed up by the trunk. Votania hasn't discovered it until it had been there for a while, at which point it had developed a civilization.
We need to do two things, here: feed the trunk so it won't keep eating our groceries, and get more lunch meat (uncivilized).
